Back dating income support

If you have already made a claim you can ask us separately about backdating.We need your request in writing and you must sign it.The council tax support scheme allows an application for a person of working age to be backdated for up to six calendar months, providing you can demonstrate continuous good cause throughout the whole period.If you have reached the age for eligibility for state pension credit, we can only backdate three months.

We may request to see evidence if your reasons relate to medical illness or delays caused by a third party.

The Tribunal will be made up of up to three members, one will be legally qualified.

There may be a Presenting Officer from the Department for Work and Pensions.

If you or your partner have reached pension credit age, but are getting Income Support, income based Job Seekers Allowance or income related Employment & Support Allowance, your claim can only be backdated for up to one month (or six months if you claimed before 1st April 2016) if you can show good cause (see above) for not claiming earlier.

Appeals We may decide that your reasons are not good enough for us to backdate your claim.
